Investment & Financing: Sheep Inc Raises £5 Million in Series A Funding to Advance Sustainable Fashion

London-based fashion brand Sheep Inc has announced the completion of a £5 million (approximately $6.48 million) Series A funding round, fueling its continued mission to expand sustainable fashion, grow internationally, and optimize its production chain. The round was co led by venture capital firms &Repeat (formerly Zinc VC) and Velocity Juice, with participation from a group of angel investors.

Founded in 2019, Sheep Inc has positioned itself as "the world's first carbon negative fashion brand." Known for its unique product traceability technology, transparent carbon footprint system, and tech driven minimalist design, the brand has become a pioneering force in merging environmental responsibility with modern aesthetics.

Traceability and Carbon Negativity: What Sets Sheep Inc Apart?

At the core of Sheep Inc's business model is a highly transparent and accountable supply chain. The brand sources ZQ certified merino wool from New Zealand, processes it using undyed or naturally dyed techniques, and manufactures products in carbon neutral factories located in Lithuania and Portugal. Each item includes an NFC chip that allows customers to scan and view detailed information about the wool's origin, carbon emissions, and transportation path, essentially turning each garment into a "wearable sustainability report."

Additionally, Sheep Inc pledges to invest in ecological restoration and regenerative agriculture projects for every item sold, offsetting the carbon emissions generated during production. According to company disclosures, Sheep Inc has been carbon negative since its inception, meaning the brand has generated a net positive environmental impact.

How Will the Funding Be Used?

Sheep Inc co-founder and CEO Edzard van der Wyck stated, "This funding will accelerate our international expansion and further strengthen our exploration of 'Product as Platform'." Specifically, the investment will support:

  • International Expansion: With most current customers located in Europe and North America, the brand plans to accelerate entry into Asia and the Middle East.

  • Digital Infrastructure Enhancement: The company will continue to develop its supply chain visualization and carbon footprint calculation tools, aiming to set industry standards.

  • Product Line Extension: Beyond its signature knitwear, Sheep Inc plans to expand into other wool-based garments and functional apparel.

More Than a Brand, a Platform for Sustainable Ideals

Rather than relying on large scale advertising, Sheep Inc has cultivated a community through organic user generated content that highlights the product traceability experience. Following the Series A announcement, social media buzzed with renewed debates around what defines "sustainable consumption."

A co-founder at &Repeat remarked, "Sheep Inc isn’t just selling wool sweaters. They're building a tech-enabled environmental platform. We see them as the prototype for the next generation of sustainable brands."

The Capital Narrative of Sustainable Fashion Continues

In an era where fast fashion is under increasing scrutiny and greenwashing is frequently exposed, Sheep Inc stands out for its data backed credibility and forward-thinking business model. This funding round signals a shift: the investment community is beginning to take seriously brands that authentically merge environmental accountability with product excellence.

Sheep Inc's journey is far from over, this may just be the first step in its broader mission to catalyze sustainable transformation within the fashion industry.
